Starting a bird sanctury

I've been asking around or free items, for the creaton of a bird sanctury next to where I live. So far I've received one bird bath and these dried gourds. Thanks Cathy! I painted them with simple, primative patterns and will cut them in halve or thirds to glue back as a series of bird bungalows. Back to that later...

Birch on fabric

I liked the way the textile played into this piece, it appears as the ground cover of fallen leaves.

New abstract

Finished this piece last night. It will hang at the Kress Gallery in Asheville. Part of a new abstract phase I currently explore.

Some backstory

Well, I didn't finish the work I wanted to last night, I got caught up more with the organizational stuff around the studio than with actually painting... which is a good thing. But sometimes it takes all night...

Anyway, this is good, I needed to first show something of where I've come from. And since I matured with my experience of paint_live, I should start there. Somewhere. So, I take you back to California, just north of the Golden Gate Bridge in Fairfax. I was renting a room for two weeks and apparently exploring the nature of wet climates. Blah. It rained 11 out of 14 days. But I'm not complaining, it was beautful. So one day I decided to see about painting at a local venue to pass the time (Fairfax was a quiet town) and I found a good place that agreed and went about preparing myself, not knowing what I might do. At this time my focus was on painting portraits in live spaces, mostly musicians, but in this case I was inspired to paint Clint Eastwood. San Francisco had elements of him and I knew heading back (to San Diego) that I would be stopping in to the Hogs Breath Inn, a restuarant he owned in Carmel. So I thought it was a good choice. So this piece goes back about four years. Painting for moist people. I never did run into Clint...

Officially flipping the switch

The "greenlightstudio" represents the lights I've had illuminating outside all of the studios I've owned in the past. A green light showing through the darkness inviting friends over and telling people that I was in the studio working, but come on in. Greenlight also means "moving forward". It stuck with me, so here we are. "paint_live" on the other hand, is out of the studio, painting in performance, on the road...

No photo post yet, nothing new to show. Tonight I will be painting the likeness of the Appalachian's with a new style I've been working on. We'll see what happens.

See you later...

light's on.

you could say it's about time

This blog has been created for my friends of "paint_live" performance art, and clients who have asked to be kept in tune with my studio work. I paint everyday, work everyday, and hopefully have time for this blogging stuff. (I'm new at this) So hopefully everyone will be pleased. My next engagement to paint_live is on April 23rd at the Pisgah Brewing Co. in Black Mountain. The band performing will be The Vertigo Jazz Project. Tickets are free.  Starts at 7pm.
